Everybody is obsessed with Lisbon right now. We are spending hours and hours on Instagram stalking Lisbon and wishing to live there.
Lisbon surely will steal your heart! Here are the reasons why Lisbon should be your next city break:
The nightlife looks like something out of a fairy tale
If you are looking for something a little less cultured, why not follow the pink block road to the city’s former red-light district, Cais do Sodré, which is home to the city’s most fashionable bars and clubs…We have every right to say that there is no place like Lisbon. We can even repeat it: there is no place like Lisbon!
If you are looking for a friendly vibe, head to Bairro Alto – the streets are full of people willing to have a chat. A neighborhood like Bairro Alto is a place you can meet other travelers. Lisbon stag do‘s are organized in this area too.
If you want to finish the night in the most civilized way like the locals do – make sure to try the homemade soup and chorizo bread fresh out of the oven.
The tiles will make your heart stop
These little superb works of art can be found on buildings and sidewalks all around the city. And once you start to notice them, you would always love to see more. For all the art addicts, there a dedicated museum, with tiles dating back as far as the 15th century.
The hostels have their own pools
People, if this is not a dream, we don’t know what is! Pardon us while we dive headfirst into our very own pit of balls at hostels in Lisbon. But wait, most of the hostels have their own rooftop pool and massage parlor complete with amazing views.
The weather’ is nice most of the time
Okay, we get it – maybe that’s an exaggeration but when you live, for example, in London, five following days of sunshine feels like sorcery. We can easily say that you will probably get more sun on a long weekend in Lisbon than you will on the whole of August in England. Lisbon, even when you are rainy, we can’t stop loving you.
The views are unbelievable
Lisbon has its very own Golden Gate Bridge that lies on the River Tagus. From there you can enjoy panoramic views. We can all agree that Lisbon is a beautiful city, and there are a million viewing spots where you can enjoy the prettiness of Lisbon.
The city is one big open-air gallery
The city is covered in amazing graffiti from colorful to political ones. The city’s most famous graffiti sprayer is Vhils: If you’ve never seen 3D murals, you’re in for a treat.
It is mandatory to eat little custard tarts for breakfast
If we have to pinpoint the start of our obsession with Lisbon to one moment back in time, it would probably be eating a freshly baked “Pastel de Nata”. You have to make sure to fill up the suitcase with these on your trip to Lisbon. Mmmmm custardy mess…
The city is full of culture and you get to live awesome real experiences
If you want to listen to some amazing street musicians sharing African, Brazilian, and Portuguese music make sure to wander around the city. There are bars that host lots of community events like art exhibitions and flea markets.
The bridges are so cool!
If you ever wondered if pure perfection exists – Vasco da Gama Bridge is one. The bridge is the longest in Europe and it is also one of the coolest!
The architecture looks LIT
If you want to see stunning architecture – it’s all-around Lisbon. We can include the whimsical Bélem Tower, which looks like it’s swimming down the Tagus River; the perfectly Praça do Comércio etc.
The ocean wind and remarkable coastline!
Being by the sea is a great way for a city to win our hearts. And the coastline around Lisbon has that reputation: rough cliffs, magnificent sandy beaches. You can visit the coastal town of Cascais or you can carry on a little further and you will reach the stunning Sintra-Cascais Park. If you want something a little more relaxing, head to the Troia Peninsula.
The sunsets are something you should look up for
After a long and hard day eating custard tarts and walking around the city, it’s time to grab a beer and some mates and head to a roof somewhere to watch the panoramic views of the city.
